Summer Wine
Now that summer in Minnesota has finally arrived, well maybe not by the calendar, but certainly by our enthusiasm and practice, wine for the season is on my mind.  Customers are looking for something to have on the deck or patio as a cooler, cocktail, or to pair with the lighter summer food fare.  Read more about summer wine choices.

Wine and Headaches
A lot has been made about the benefits of drinking wine and heart disease.  Some controversy still exists, but most studies show that moderate wine drinking can be beneficial.  The key of course is moderation.  Unfortunately, some individuals claim they get headaches when drinking wine, red wine in particular.  Aside from the caveat about moderation, there can be any number of possibilities. Planning a Party?
The Holiday Season is party season for Aurora Wines and Spirits customers.  When I am asked about planning for “adult beverages” for a party, I use one of two “rules of thumb” to determine amounts.  The easiest is to plan on one drink per hour for every person at the party, multiplied by the number of hours the party is expected to last.  Twenty people for three hours works out to sixty drinks.  That accounts for those who drink little or none, including children, and adds for those who will drink more.  The second way of figuring amounts is if you know who will be consuming alcoholic beverages, multiplying that number by two drinks per hour of party.  A case of wine averages 72 glasses, a bottle or can of beer counts as one drink, a liter of liquor will pour 33 one ounce drinks.

Stop in, call, or write us at Aurora Wines and Spirits and we will be happy to help you with your beverage planning.  We can help you pair beverages with foods, determine amounts, and we will work with any budget.  Let AWS help your party be a huge success.

Pairing Beer with Food?
Have you ever considered pairing beer with the different courses of a meal, just like diners do with wine?  Beer has been around for a long time, probably thousands of years, and there is a huge variety of beer to pair with just about any food.  As a beverage, beer is sort of a catch-all term to describe the wide array of fermented mixtures of grain and yeast.  Beer is divided into two main groups, ales and lagers.  Each has its own characteristics that make it ideal for different food groups. Read more about pairing beer with food.
